A large number of extrajudicial fines are still pending from the Traffic Light System with their repayment period extended until April 30th and the Police calling on the public to check through the relevant platform.
In its announcement, the Police recalls that the period for the repayment of outstanding extrajudicial fines began on January 8 and would last until March 31. However, it is noted that due to the positive response from the public, the very high demand for the repayment of extrajudicial fines through the platform and the upcoming Easter holidays, it was decided that the payment of outstanding extrajudicial fines for offenses recorded by the Photographic Traffic System between 1/1/2022 - 30/9/2024 will be extended until April 30, 2025.
Therefore, the Police urges vehicle owners to check to see whether their vehicle has been registered by the System and then to settle any outstanding issues.
The interested party can visit the website of the contracting company (www.CyCameraSystem.com.cy) and enter: a) the registration number of their vehicle and b) the identity card number or the alien registration number (ARC) or the company / business number, as the case may be.
Then, it is stated, he will be able to determine a) whether any extrajudicial fine is pending against him, b) the number of extrajudicial fines that are pending and c) the serial number of each extrajudicial fine.
If the interested party wishes to make immediate payment, they can visit the Police website (www.police.gov.cy) and follow the relevant procedure.
For the details of the violation, he can contact during any working day only, via the telephone number 80008009, between the hours of 08:00-17:00, to be given the code of the extrajudicial fine and to gain access to the details of the violation, which he will locate on the website of the contracting company, as noted.
At the same time, the public can contact the same telephone number (80008009) in case they encounter any problem in relation to payment or registration of data.
The Police state that in the event that the owner of a vehicle determines that he was not driving his vehicle himself at the time the violation was recorded, he may be legally obligated to indicate the driver.
The driver's recommendation can be made directly, electronically, on the website in question, without requiring involvement in a bureaucratic process.
It is noted that on the basis of the Traffic Offenses (Use of Photographic Devices and Other Related Matters) Law (Law 55(I)2001, it is added that the owner is obliged to disclose, (in this case) through a relevant registration, the details of the person who was driving his vehicle at the time the violation was recorded.
In the event that the registered owner fails to provide any information regarding the driver's identity, he is guilty of an offense under article 21 of the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Law (Law 86/72), the Police note.
It is clarified that entering the platform and checking an incident does not imply that the court order has been served on the owner.
The entire procedure and the possibility of paying extrajudicial fines will not apply to cases for which cases have already been registered before a court, the Police announcement concludes.
