Last week, a father reported to the Police that his son, who attends a primary school in the province of Larnaca, was injured in the hands by glasses, while the incident is also being investigated by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.
As Spiros Chrysostomou, press representative of the Larnaca Police Directorate, reported to KYPE, "on Saturday, October 19, a father reported to the Police that his 8-year-old son, who attends a primary school in the province of Larnaca, was injured last week in the hands by glasses. The father also complained that the school management did not handle the incident properly."
Mr. Chrysostomou added that "the father was asked to take the child to the Police within the next few days in order to give a videotaped statement, so that we know exactly what happened, to know how to handle the incident. It is expected that the child will give full information about the events, i.e. what happened and the reasons that led to his injury."
He went on to say that "for the father's complaint to the Police, both the Ministry of Education and the Primary School where the child attends were informed".
In addition, Erni Sismanis, Head of the Educational Psychology Service of the Ministry of Education, described the incident as "very serious which is being investigated both by the Ministry of Education and by all the Services involved".
"This is a very delicate matter and should be treated with the same seriousness by all," he said.
He added that “the Educational Psychology Service has not been informed of this particular incident previously nor has a report of bullying behavior been made to our Service by the School. The incident will be investigated by all Services and we are at the disposal of both the family and the child, if they want it for any kind of support."
We are, Ms. Sismanis concluded, "at the disposal of the school and possibly the rest of the children who were present in the incident, who may need support from a psychologist."
