More than 5.000 out-of-court bills were paid in the first days of implementation of the new measure to pay off the approximately 250 out-of-court bills from the photo-marking cameras that have not been served so far.
The new measure came into effect on January 8 and covers fines issued from the beginning of 2022 until September 30, 2024.
Drivers can check if they have overpaid on a special website for speed cameras and pay the amounts via the Police website.
Speaking to the Morning Route, the Assistant Director of Traffic Headquarters, Haris Evripidou, emphasized that the measure was decided in collaboration with the Legal Service and that the offenses recorded by the photo-marking cameras do not have a statute of limitations.
Those who have not received their summons and do not pay the fine, based on the new arrangement, by March 31, are expected to be brought to court without further delay.
The recommendation of the Headquarters Traffic Department is to amend the legislation so that vehicle traffic licenses are not renewed, for which the owner is pending referral to the Court for non-payment of an extrajudicial fine.
