Ready-mix concrete workers are back on the job if their employer signs the collective agreement, while the strike will continue at companies that do not accept the deal.
This was decided at a General Assembly of the SEK - PEO - DEOK Trade Unions, held in the community of Pyrgos, Limassol District, with the workers accepting the proposal of the trade unions.
In his statements after the end of the General Assembly, the General Secretary of the PEO Builders' Union, Michalis Papanikolaou, said that "the workers, united, as they conducted this very important struggle, continue united for the future".
The workers, he continued, "are entering a countdown process for those employers who wish to sign the agreed upon".
For his part, the General Secretary of OOIMSEK - SEC, Stelios Tsiapoutis stated that it has been decided that, "from the moment any company signs the renewal documents of the collective agreement, the workers will start working".
"If any company does not sign and does not respect the agreed upon, strike measures will certainly be in force," he indicated.
Asked about it, he said that there is information that several employers are willing to implement the collective agreement.
Besides, the General Secretary of the DEOK Builders' Guild, Stelios Efstratiou stated that the next steps will be considered for those employers who do not sign the collective agreement.
Asked whether the workers are satisfied with the new agreement, he said that "it was not what was desired for the workers, but it was the best". "We got some proposals gradually from the mediation and the Minister and the workers accepted, with a large majority, the last proposal of the Minister", he added.
Asked to comment on the fact that the strike created problems in the development of projects in the construction industry, Mr. Efstratiou stated that "society understood the reason why the ready-mix concrete workers were on strike".
"We didn't have any charges against the workers. The accusations hit the employers more," he added.
