The Consumer Protection Service (CPS) is working intensively, in collaboration with the Contractor and the participating supermarkets, so that the e-kalathi platform is made available to consumers, on a pilot basis, before Christmas on a voluntary basis, while, after receiving the required feedback from users, its normal operation is scheduled for mid-February.
In its announcement on the occasion of recent publications about e-kalathi, the Service states that it is "working intensively, in collaboration with the Contractor and the participating supermarkets, so that the platform will be available to them, on a pilot basis, before Christmas".
"Beyond the main objective of providing immediate and real-time information to consumers, on the prices of basic products, during the pilot period of the platform, the Ministry of Finance also expects to receive the required feedback from users (consumers and supermarkets) , so that any corrective actions can be taken before its normal operation, which is planned for mid-February 2025", it is noted.
During the pilot application, the announcement continues, "the platform will include approximately 480 basic consumer goods, which are particularly important in the household basket."
It is noted that "despite the fact that during the pilot application period the participation of supermarkets will be on a voluntary basis, there is nevertheless a great response from them".
The Consumer Protection Service also states that "at the end of the pilot period, and after the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry has issued the prescribed Decree, the platform should include all affected supermarkets and include all the products that will designated by the Minister, as provided for in the relevant legislation".
It is emphasized, finally, that "a perennial priority of the Consumer Protection Service is to strengthen the protection and purchasing power of the consumer".
