The Cypriot defense industry has made enormous progress and the prospects are great, said the President of the KEBE Stavros Stavrou, who, with a delegation from the Cyprus Association of Business, Research and Innovation, were received, on Tuesday, by the President of the Republic, in the presence of the Ministers of Defense and Finance.
In statements he said that they were given the opportunity, for the first time, to develop and explain the prospects that exist for the Cypriot defense industry, which made progress both in Cyprus and abroad.
Mr. Stavrou mentioned that some plans were put on the table on how we proceed not only to recognize, but also to strengthen the defense industry.
"There is a tremendous development in innovation, which evolves and develops in Cyprus and is also used abroad and we want to stand on it and build for the future", he said.
He added that the meeting was constructive and there was an excellent response from the President "and we look forward to the next steps and we are sure that very soon we will see the writing samples of what we said today".
In response to a question, Mr. Stavrou mentioned that this was a first meeting for which a lot of work was done and specific, targeted thoughts and some timetable were put in to start the actions.
"We believe that yes, the results will be seen soon, but the timetable, if I can call it a timetable, is to start immediate actions. But I want you to know that we didn't come here unprepared to say good morning, a lot of work was done before we came here, and yes it was the first meeting, but not preliminary," he added.
In another question about specific fields where there is a perspective, he said that he would not like to go into details, explaining that it is a field that, although it is called the defense industry, touches every company that exists in Cyprus, whether it is in the defense sector or not.
