The Republican Turkish Party (RTK) submitted a proposal to hold early "parliamentary elections" on April 26, calling for the issue to be discussed immediately in the "plenary session" of the "parliament".
According to the Turkish Cypriot electronic press, party President Sila Usar Incirli said in her statements that her party is ready and calls for a referendum, citing the need for political change. Ms. Incirli criticized the stance of the National Unity Party (KEE), noting that the party's internal procedures are delaying the start of the "parliament's" work.
Referring to the current situation in the occupied territories, Ms. Incirli spoke of a particularly difficult period, linking it to the recent revelations of irregularities at various levels of the “administration.” Among other things, she referred to the fake degree cases involving the “speaker of the parliament,” as well as the arrests or dismissals of “government” and “bidding committees” officials.
"The people are asking to know when the ballot boxes will be set up," said the President of the RTK, adding that resorting to the popular verdict is necessary to overcome the current stalemate. She concluded by emphasizing that the "legal" procedures for corruption cases must proceed normally, so that there is full clarification and responsibilities are attributed where appropriate.
