Forty-two thousand students studying at the Public Secondary General Directorate were affected today, Wednesday, by the two-hour work stoppage of teachers, said the Deputy Director of Secondary Education, Giorgos Koutsidis, adding that after 11:00, only 5% of students nationwide arrived.

In statements to CNA, Mr. Koutsidis said that after the end of the work stoppage, at 11:00, the teachers returned to their positions for the rest of the school day.

It is an inalienable right of secondary education teachers to strike, he said, however, for the Secondary Education Office of the Ministry of Education, "the handling of this specific issue was completely unjustified."

Today it continued, with the work stoppage from 7.30 to 11.00 that was taken out by secondary education teachers, protesting the bill on evaluation, "thousands of students, 42.000 in number, as well as their parents, have been affected" and as a Ministry "they cannot understand why".

He pointed out, however, that actions were taken so that students could be in their seats by 11:00 to continue the last three periods of the school day. He also added that absences today will be counted but will not be counted and any scheduled exams will be avoided.
