The Police are again recommending the public's attention to a telephone scam, through the WhatsApp application.
The astute, through the communication platform – WhatsApp, invite unsuspecting citizens to a video call, falsely pretending that they are communicating with the Cyprus Police.
The vigilantes ask citizens to declare various personal and bank details. (ID, passport, debit / credit cards, etc.).
The public is invited to be especially careful and:
Do NOT respond to the calls and instructions received from the vigilantes.
Do not respond to any links that are sent.
Not to reveal to others, codes that happened to be received on their mobile phone.
In the event that bank details are disclosed during such a call, the public should IMMEDIATELY inform their banking institution to avoid unwanted use of their data.
