A 24-hour strike will be held next Monday, July 7, from 5 am, by Class A transporters of all vehicle categories that are required to use the tachograph.
The decision of the Boards of Directors of the branches of the Union for dynamic measures was confirmed and supported during yesterday's Pancyprian General Assembly of Transporters A. The aim is to put pressure on those responsible for the problems arising from the use of tachographs.
According to a POVEK announcement, the locations where the protests will take place are the ports of Limassol and Larnaca, the quarries and the cement factory.
As noted, they will be peaceful demonstrations of abstention from work and will not obstruct traffic for the rest of the world.
The Union, in its announcement, states that the primary problem is the times that, based on the Legislation, each carrier is obliged to implement and which are impossible to achieve due to the new difficult conditions that have been created with the traffic issue that has recently arisen.
It is noted that the times, which are limited to such an extent due to tachographs and the times that the contracting companies operate the ports, are not consistent with the ability of the drivers to use their vehicles, resulting in an additional burden on the drivers' working hours.
In addition to the issue of tachographs, Transporters report that they are also facing other problems, such as policing and the complaints they receive about issues that the Transporters themselves point out to the competent Ministries to be corrected.
In summary, the Transporters are requesting a change in the Legislation regarding the heights and lengths of trucks, and an exemption from the obligation to install protective beams on the sides of the bellows bodies.
