The Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance expects this morning the response to the mediation proposal for the renewal of the collective agreement in the ready-mixed concrete industry.
The appointment given was for 8.00 this morning.
In the case of positive responses from both sides, the agreement and codified contract will be signed within the day.
Minister Yiannis Panagiotou, presenting the proposal on Monday, estimated that the employers' association and the trade unions of the sector "will function responsibly and respond positively, so that the development of the economy continues and the cohesion of society is strengthened".
According to the Minister, the mediation proposal provides for the improvement of working conditions according to the data of the specific sector, including annual salary increases, an improved calculation ratio of overtime employment, and additional labor benefits.
"The restoration of normality in the ready-mixed concrete production sector is necessary for the operation of the construction industry and for the activity of the Cypriot economy under conditions of stability", stressed Mr. Panagiotou.
He reminded that in this direction significant efforts were made to bridge the differences between the two sides, which escalated recently, with the aim of reaching an agreement on the renewal of the collective agreement of the sector.
Mr. Panagiotou also noted that through this process and on the basis of the agreed negotiation framework, "the differences between the employer and the union side were significantly reduced, without, however, making it possible to reach a mutually acceptable agreement".
