On December 19, the judicial procedure was redefined, which concerns the financial aspect of the scandal of the Holy Monastery of St. Avvakum.
Today's hearing before the Criminal Court of Nicosia was postponed again, following the request of the defense of the accused monks, Nektarios and Porphyrios.
Specifically, the defense lawyer of the two defendants, Maria Kestoros, reported to the court that they have not received part of the witness material from the accusing Authority.
For its part, the accusing Authority did not object to the request, reporting to the court that the witness material in question will be sent in ten days, so that it can be examined by the defense lawyers.
In addition, during today's proceedings, the defense requested a modification of the condition, regarding the presence of the accused at a police station for signature.
In particular, the accused presented themselves at the Agios Dometio Police Station every Monday and Thursday from 17:00 to 20:00 until today.
The court accepted the request to modify the decree and from today the accused will appear at the same Police Station, every Monday and Thursday, from 08:00 to 20:00.
It is noted that the remaining restrictive conditions remain the same.
The two accused monks are facing 24 charges, relating to conspiracy to commit extortion, the commission of a felony, the illegal possession of property of 196 thousand euros, theft from an agent, forgery, circulation of a forgery, theft, money laundering, false tax return and interference in legal proceedings.
It is noted that the presumption of innocence applies to all defendants, until proven guilty by the court, beyond all reasonable doubt.
