The Municipalities of Larnaca and Dromolaxia-Meneo, who met yesterday on the issue, are requesting a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, with the aim of presenting and discussing the recommendations of an expert study conducted on the issue of compensatory measures for the operation of Larnaca Airport.
A statement from the Municipality of Larnaca states that at the meeting, with the participation of the Mayors of Larnaca Andreas Vyras and Dromolaxia-Meneo Kypros Andronikos, in the presence of members of parliament from the province, the results of the study commissioned by the Municipality of Larnaca to an expert were presented.
The study, according to the announcement, "documents the need to provide compensatory benefits to the Municipalities of Larnaca and Dromolaxia - Meneo", identifies both the benefits and the significant negative impacts from the operation of the airport, such as noise pollution, air pollution and urban planning pressure in the area.
Analyzing international practices, it is noted, "the study suggests three main axes of compensatory policy, namely the creation of a Rehabilitation and Social Restitution Fund, direct compensation and support for residents, and strategic development and infrastructure projects."
The Municipalities of Larnaca and Dromolaxia - Meneo "declare their readiness to present their study and proposals at the level of technocrats and request that a meeting be immediately scheduled with the President of the Republic for the presentation and discussion of the proposals."
According to the announcement, "the Municipality of Larnaca remains steadfast in its pursuit of fair and balanced solutions to enhance the quality of life of residents and the sustainable development of the region."
