Twenty-seven trade unions are holding a protest event at noon in front of the "Ministry of Finance" in occupied Nicosia for punctuality and inflation, but also for the renewal of collective agreements.
Last Friday, 19 unions of workers in the wider "public" sector protested for the same reasons, throwing potatoes around the building.
The head of the Turkish teachers' union (KTÖS), Burak Mavis, said that they are reacting to the "government's" attempt to change the calculation of the "cost of living" (ATA) and to interfere with the right to collective bargaining. "This is not only the struggle of the trade unions, but the struggle of the whole people. We must act together for our future," he added.
The protest will take place at 13.30 in the presence of the leaders of all the unions that will participate, from the wider "public" sector and the unions that cover workers in the private sector.
In the meantime, by "decree" the planned 24-hour strike of the employees at the "control tower" of the illegal airport in Tymbou, was postponed for 60 days.
The "air traffic controllers' union" had planned the strike to start today at 8.30am. But the "council of ministers" issued a decision - a prohibition decree, which was published in the "official gazette" and the work stoppage was postponed for 60 days.
