The last day to renew vehicle registration permits for the year 2025 is Tuesday, March 11 at midnight, while as of March 06, the registration permits of 627.024 vehicles had been renewed, according to the Department of Road Transport (DRT) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.
A relevant announcement clarifies that registration permits can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and twelve months, while registration permits that will be renewed after Tuesday will be subject to a charge of the sum of 10 euros and an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the registration permit, which corresponds to the amount due for the current year.
It is recalled that those who had renewed their vehicle registration for the year 2024 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2025 must submit a notice to the Road Transport Department (RTD) for the immobilisation of the vehicle. Immobilisation can also be done online on the Road Transport Department (RTD) website (https://rtd.mcw.gov.cy).
It is noted that vehicles for which their registration permit has not been renewed for the year 2024 and have not been declared as immobilised will be deleted from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2024 is not paid and their registration permit is renewed for 2025, while in the event of destruction of the vehicle, an application for cancellation of the vehicle registration (TOM form 98A) must be submitted to the TOM accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction" issued by licensed vehicle waste treatment facilities, in order to exempt the vehicle owner from the obligation to pay traffic fees from the date of destruction of the vehicle.
