The Turkish press sees a "new era" in Cyprus with the Turkish Cypriot 'elections', while a common element among all is the projection of the message of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who congratulated the new "president" of the pseudo-state, unlike his far-right partner Devlet Bahçeli who did not congratulate Erhürman, but called for the 'cancellation' of the 'elections' in the occupied territories and the integration of the pseudo-state into Turkey, renouncing the federation.
“Hürriyet” under the headline “Erhürman won in Cyprus” speaks of “a surprise in the Turkish Cypriot elections that had the character of a referendum”. It points out that “the voters preferred Erhürman, who supports the federation with the Greek Cypriots, instead of Ersin Tatar, who supports a two-state solution”. It adds that Erhürman “stated that there will be understanding with Turkey on foreign policy issues” and that “President Erdogan congratulated him”. The newspaper also highlights Bahçeli’s statement that “the ‘TRNC’ should be integrated into Turkey”.
"Sabah" is entitled "Tufan Erhurman's Era in 'TRNC'" and highlights Erdogan's congratulatory statement. Columnist Yavuz Donat writes that during his recent visit to the occupied territories, Erhurman had told him: "If I am elected, we will march together with Ankara. When I was 'prime minister', I cooperated harmoniously with Erdogan, I will do the same now."
“Sozcu” is entitled “Underground Wave in Cyprus”, noting that “opposition candidate Erhurman won, while AKP-backed Ersin Tatar suffered a heavy defeat”. According to the newspaper, the “elections” signal a “change of course in favor of a federal solution”. Alongside the main news, it also hosts statements by Devlet Bahçeli entitled “The ‘TRNC’ must join Turkey”.
"Cumhuriyet" writes about the "Era of Erhurman", while "Türkiye" emphasizes his message that "We do not make decisions without Turkey."
Similar headlines in "Yeni Şafak" ("Erhiurman era in the TRNC") and in "Aksam" ("Erhiurman is the new president in the TRNC"), while Milliyet describes the climate with the headline "New page in northern Cyprus".
Turkish news outlets display a restrained but clear acceptance of the election result, with the basic line that Erciyes Erciyes is willing to maintain close cooperation with Ankara, despite supporting the federal solution to the Cyprus problem.
