A Greek Cypriot man was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison after being found guilty by the British Bases Court of Dhekelia on June 20, for possession of Class A and B drugs with the intent to supply to other persons.
The 47-year-old, who was found in possession of 2.5 grams of cocaine and 100 grams of cannabis, was also found guilty of willful destruction of evidence – cannabis.
Initially, he was arrested in the Agios Nikolaos area on October 14, 2024, following a large-scale police operation against drugs and weapons.
The accused was detained until he appeared before the British Bases court, while the British Bases police continued to investigate the case.
The Assistant Police Chief of the British Bases of Dhekelia, Police Constable Dinos Petrou, said that this sent a strong message to those involved in this type of crime.
He explained: “The sentence demonstrates that we will bring those involved in drug trafficking to justice and our efforts will not stop.
"The arrest demonstrates the excellent work done by our Police Force as they identified, located and arrested the accused, who is now behind bars."
