The key role of Cyprus in terms of technologies and innovation in the region was underlined today in joint statements by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianou, and the Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, Dima Al Yahya.

Shortly before their meeting, which focused on the prospects of deepening the Organization's cooperation with Cyprus, Damianou and Al Yahya mentioned the important role that Cyprus can play for the digital transition, thanks to its position between three continents.

Mr. Damianou stated that the Government's goal is to take advantage of the position of Cyprus, which is also the first EU member state to join the Organization, so that it emerges as a "bridge between nations, people and ideas". He also underlined the Government's commitment to upgrading the digital landscape, making the digital transition its top priority.

He made special reference to the need for stronger collaborations that will promote common goals, pointing out that this is also the intention of the Organization, while pointing out that digital technologies "constitute a cornerstone of sustainable development, social progress and prosperity".

The Deputy Minister also referred to the actions that Cyprus has already taken to develop a robust digital economy, adding that the country is "rapidly developing into a regional hub of technology and innovation, serving businesses and organizations looking for a reliable gateway to Europe and the area".

The purpose, as he said, is to make Cyprus a bridge that will facilitate communication, cooperation and the transfer of expertise between countries and people in the region. He pointed out that the meeting with the Organization's delegation confirms the close ties between the two parties and expressed the belief that it will lead to a deepening of their relations and cooperation.

On behalf of the Organization, Mrs. Al Yahya also did not fail to mention Cyprus' strategic position between three continents, noting that this makes it a gateway for start-ups and companies focusing on new technologies. "This position has allowed the country to develop into a thriving hub for innovation," he said, adding that Cyprus is a "shining example of how collaboration between governments, the private sector and innovative entrepreneurs can bring sustainable growth and economic strength." .

He also noted that Cyprus plays a central role in shaping the Organization's collective vision, explaining that its role is "to bridge digital divides and create inclusive opportunities, ensuring that technology acts as a driver for positive change."

"We, together with our member states, are united in our efforts to ensure that digital opportunities are accessible to all," said Ms. Al Yahya, underscoring the importance of international and cross-border cooperation.

"By fostering an environment of mutual support and collective action, especially among our member states, the Organization is driving meaningful progress and creating lasting impact," she concluded, expressing her optimism for the achievement of this goal.
