Panic among the "competent services" in the occupied territories was caused by suspicious cases of foot-and-mouth disease in animals, while a meeting was held at the "ministry of agriculture" for immediate measures to contain the disease.
The current Turkish Cypriot press is extensively reporting on the issue, with the newspaper "Halkin Sesi" writing that incidents were identified in the occupied village of Lapathos (Famagusta) after tests carried out after the suspicious death of animals identified symptoms of foot-and-mouth disease in 70 large animals at a livestock unit, while samples were sent for further analysis and tests to Turkey.
The newspaper "Bağımsız" reports on the issue on its front page and writes that in a meeting at the "Ministry of Agriculture" under "Minister" Hussein Javous, it was decided that as an initial measure, the livestock unit where the suspicious cases were identified would be quarantined while vaccines are expected from Turkey.
Moreover, in a statement, the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) refers to the danger of the spread of the disease and the negative impacts on livestock and agriculture and calls on the "competent services" to take immediate measures to contain the disease.
