10-year-old lost his life to save his 6-year-old sister from a frozen lake

A 10-year-old boy in Tennessee died trying to rescue his younger sister, 6, who fell into a frozen lake.

Police and firefighters rushed to the family home from where they transported Benjamin Luckett and his younger sister, Abigail, to the hospital, but the 10-year-old died while in the emergency room.

The two brothers were reportedly playing near a lake behind their house with one of their brothers. While they were playing, Abigail fell into the lake, broadcast Fox 8.

One brother called their father for help while Benjamin dived into the lake to save his sister. The father managed to take the 6-year-old to the shore but not his 10-year-old son.

According to reports, firefighters said that from what they understood, Benjamin was trying to keep his sister on the surface.

"It simply came to our notice then. "The bottom line is that the water down there is usually not freezing enough to create enough thickness on the surface to hold a human volume, so it's dangerous," said Brent Perkins, of the Fire Department.

Abigail is hospitalized and her health is constantly improving, while her mother informed her about the death of her brother. "Abby was upset but she got it right. Christine [s.s. "The mother] was asking God to give her the strength to tell her daughter," said a family friend.

Update 4: Abby is off the fan. She is doing very well. Abby started telling her mom that her and Benjamin drown…

As she explained, the 6-year-old needs help to walk and continues to take strong antibiotics because the lake water in her lungs could cause some infection.

In addition, she conveyed her mother's thanks for the support of the people, adding her desire to warn other parents and children about the ice-covered lakes.

Update 5 Christine just called me to tell me they are in a regular room! She wanted me to tell everyone and share this…
