An eleven-year-old boy, who refused to tidy up his room, took a gun belonging to his grandfather and killed his grandmother with a bullet to the head before committing suicide.
According to local Arizona media in the US, 65-year-old Yvonne Woodard was killed while watching TV with her husband at their home in Litsfield Park, northwest of Phoenix. The couple, who had the sole custody of the 11-year-old, asked him all day to tidy up his room and he persistently refused, his grandfather explained to the police.
According to a spokesman for the Marikopa County sheriff, the couple was sitting on the couch in their living room when the boy appeared behind him and shot his grandmother in the head with a gun belonging to his grandfather.
At first he tried to chase the child, but eventually rushed to help his wife. Meanwhile, his grandson committed suicide with the same weapon.
"There was no evidence that the grandson could have endangered himself or others," said a spokesman for the sheriff, who added that an investigation had been launched into the incident.
