Plane crashes in South Sudan – 20 dead, one survives
A small plane carrying oil field workers in South Sudan's Unity state crashed on Wednesday, killing 20 people, an official said.
The plane crashed at the oilfield airport as it headed to the capital Juba, the state's information minister said, adding that the passengers were employees of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), a joint venture that includes China National Petroleum Corporation and state-owned Nile Petroleum Corporation. Among the dead are two Chinese nationals and an Indian.
The minister did not give further details about the circumstances leading to the crash. Media reports had initially put the death toll at 18, but authorities told Reuters that two survivors later died. One person survived the crash.
