US-Turkish Foreign Ministers' Meeting Invalid After Ambassador's Removal

The meeting scheduled for next week between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu was canceled after the withdrawal of the Turkish Ambassador from Washington.

It is noted that the Pompeo-Kotzia meeting is to take place, while there is no response to Nicosia's request for a Christodoulidis-Pompeo meeting.

"I do not know the meetings we have arranged at the moment for sure with many governments. When I have these meetings, rest assured I will inform you ".

 

He declined to comment on the Turkish ambassador's recall, and when asked how US-Turkish relations were affected, he said he did not know how long it would last.

"I must refer you to the Turkish government. We are definitely aware, but it is their decision and they are in the best position to be asked ".

It is recalled that Turkey withdrew its ambassadors to the US and Israel for consultations, following the clashes between the Israeli army and the Palestinians. in the Gaza Strip resulting in at least 60 Palestinian deaths.

Ms Nauert blamed Hamas and defended Israel 's right to defend itself. He also declined to say why there was no US government invitation to Israel to show restraint, nor whether the United States supported the appointment of a commission to investigate the deaths by Israeli fire.
