At the same time, the same sources note that the positions of Greece and the EU regarding the rights of the Greek minority in Albania have been repeatedly and clearly expressed at all levels, while reference is made to the "particularly clear", as they emphasize , yesterday's position of the Prime Minister, which left no room for misinterpretation by the Albanian leadership regarding the condition to fully respect the rights and especially the property of the Greek expatriates.
In particular, diplomatic sources report: "We noticed that the Government Gazette was finally removed from the website of the Albanian government newspaper, which would allow the arbitrary nationalization of lands belonging to Greek expatriates in the area of Chimarra. It remains to be seen whether this move was the first step in the complete repeal of unacceptable decisions targeting the Greek minority and its property, irreparably undermining Albania's European perspective. "A perspective that presupposes full respect for the rights of all minorities living in Albania, and that we expect to be reflected in the implementing laws for minorities."
Yesterday in Bucharest, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras issued a direct warning about Albania's accession prospects to the EU, stressing that Tirana is promoting negative arrangements for the Greek minority in the neighboring country. "Today I am learning that there is a negative development in relation to the Greek minority in Albania," said Mr. Tsipras, stressing that "if this is the case, it will be a very negative development."
"It's a case that unfortunately at the moment does not give us optimism about the crucial European perspective of this country, which is facing significant challenges and to which it must respond. "The conditions to move in this direction, however, if this information we have is verified, I think it does not exist", the prime minister underlined.
