British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said today that he "will not give in" to pressure from the US president, saying that the United Kingdom will continue to support Greenland against the US president's desire to seize this Danish-ruled Arctic island.
"I will not give in. The United Kingdom will not compromise its principles and values and the future of Greenland under the threat of tariffs.", Starmer said in the House of Commons.
He added that Trump's attacks on London's agreement to return sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius were designed to put pressure on the UK over Greenland.
The day before yesterday, the US president said that Britain's plan to return sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius is a "act of absolute weakness", adding that it is "yet another in the very long list of national security reasons for which Greenland should be acquired" from the US.
The British Prime Minister also stressed that the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will visit Britain tomorrow, Thursday, for talks.
