Maccabi Health Services, which covers about a quarter of Israel's population of 9,3 million, compared the results of 149.144 people over the age of 60 who received a third dose of the vaccine at least seven days before with the results of 675.630 people who received just two vaccine doses in January and February.
"The vaccine has once again proven its effectiveness," said Dr. Anat Ekka Zohar, who led the study.
"It also showed protection against the Delta variant. The triple dose is the solution to deal with the current resurgence. "
Of the 149.144 people vaccinated with the third dose, only 37 cases of coronavirus positive were detected, compared to the 1.064 positive cases found in the group of 675.630 people who had received two doses.
"Three doses result in high protection against both infection and serious illness," he said.
