King Charles will make his first major public appearance since revealing he was diagnosed with cancer last month.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who has performed a number of solo royal duties in her husband's absence, will attend an Easter service at Windsor Castle Chapel on Sunday, Buckingham Palace announced.

A move to reassure the public after the shock news

Officials said on Tuesday according to the Independent that Charles and Camilla will be joined by other members of the royal family at the Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel.

The appearance will be the first major event for King Charles since he was diagnosed with cancer in February. The king undergoes regular treatments and has suspended almost all public engagements since the cancer diagnosis. Officials did not disclose what type of cancer Charles has, but said it was not related to the recent surgery he underwent for a benign prostate condition.

The monarch continues to carry out some official duties behind palace walls while still handling state affairs, including his regular weekly meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and will not surrender his constitutional role as head of state.

William and Kate will not be in attendance

It was not immediately known which other members of the royal family will attend Sunday's service, but Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, who announced last week that she is also undergoing treatment for cancer, are not expected to attend.

Also not attending will be their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The family spends the Easter holidays together as they adjust to Kate's cancer diagnosis.

Charles' appearance on Sunday will be seen as a move by the king to reassure the public after the shock news, while it could also be interpreted as an encouraging sign of his health.
