In the position of Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, chose to place the candidate from Cyprus, Costas Kadi, in the new composition of the College of Commissioners, as announced today from Strasbourg.
"I am drawing on his experience to help build a resilient, competitive and sustainable sector and deliver the first European Oceans Agreement," said Ms von der Leyen.
Ms von der Leyen announced the names and portfolios of all six executive vice-presidents of the Commission and the remaining 20 Commissioners, focusing on the main political priorities of her second term, which she said would be prosperity, security and democracy, alongside ensuring competitiveness, and the green and digital transition of EU economies.
As he pointed out, all issues are interconnected, based on the recommendations of the Draghi report, reducing the separation between portfolios.
