Its former deputy leader, Naim Qassem, was chosen by Hezbollah as its new leader, after the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah.
In a statement, Hezbollah says that the election of Naim Qassem was unanimous.
Naim Kassem is the one who has come forward and speaks publicly about the Lebanese organization after the death of Naaralla – Since October 5th he has been in Tehran, at the initiative of the Iranians
He had fled to Iran
In the previous days and after the neutralization of Nasrallah, Israeli media reported that Naim Kassem had fled to Iran, for fear of Israeli raids that would target him, and while the president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, had declared that Kassem "will have the same fate as his associates" in Hezbollah.
Kassem, like the rest of Hezbollah's leadership, has been targeted by Israel since the start of the war in October 2023, while he was the one who appeared and spoke publicly after the assassination of Nasrallah, as his deputy.
