On Friday afternoon, Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo welcomed their son, Alfredo, who was born on New Year's Eve, at 11:45 p.m. local time.
Just 15 minutes later, as soon as the clock struck midnight, the couple welcomed Alfredo's twin sister, Aylin, on New Year's Eve.
In a press release from Natividad Medical Center, which is owned by People magazine, the mother spoke about her feelings on the occasion of the unique birthday of her newborn twin children.
"It seems crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays," he said. "I was surprised and glad that [the girl] arrived at midnight." Ana Abril Arias, a doctor at Natividad Medical Group, added: "It is definitely one of the most memorable births of my career."
"It was so enjoyable to help these little ones come into the world safe in 2021 and 2022," he said. "What an incredible way to start the New Year!"
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 120.000 twin births are recorded each year in the United States, just over 3% of all births.
Twins Alfredo and Aylin have three other brothers - two girls and a boy. The mother says that her eldest son was excited to have a brother, while the rest of the family is looking forward to meeting the new members.
