The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has excluded Russian and Belarusian athletes from the Beijing Paralympic Games, changing its decision yesterday. The Winter Paralympic Games begin in Beijing tomorrow and will end on March 13.
In particular, yesterday the Commission had decided that athletes from both countries would have the right to participate in the Games with neutral "colors", a decision that had been challenged in many countries.
In a press release today, the IPC justified this reversal, noting that "teams and athletes are now threatening not to participate, jeopardizing the chances of success of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics. The situation in the athletes' village is deteriorating and its guarantee it has become impossible for them ".
It is worth noting that after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the IOC accused Russia of violating the Olympic Truce and urged the federations to exclude Russians and Belarusians from all events.
