A serious traffic accident occurred this morning in central London, when a double-decker bus crashed outside the busy Victoria Street train station in Westminster, resulting in several people being injured.
Shortly after 8:00 in the morning, a helicopter-ambulance was called to the scene, while a large police force and ambulances were immediately there. According to the authorities, among the injured are the bus driver, passengers and pedestrians, who were taken to city hospitals.
According to the Sun, the area has been cordoned off by authorities, with traffic completely stopped as rescue crews continue their work. Initial reports indicate that there are no fatalities, while the driver's condition remains unknown.
London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8am today (20 September) to a traffic accident on Victoria Street, Westminster. We sent ambulances, paramedics, a rapid response doctor, a clinical team leader, an incident co-ordination officer and a support vehicle to the scene. We also dispatched the London Ambulance Helicopter. The incident is ongoing and we are working with other emergency services."
For its part, the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers responded at around 08:20 to reports of a collision on Victoria Street, SW1, involving a bus and several pedestrians. Several pedestrians and bus passengers have been injured and are being taken to hospital, with no fatalities reported so far. The bus driver has also been taken to hospital. No arrests have been made. The road remains closed and traffic is being diverted. Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting the code CAD 1605/4Sep.”
