The findings of the experts appointed by the Hellenic Police, combined with the statements received by the experienced Homicide officers, are the evidence that led to the arrest of Irini Mourtzoukou for the death of the infants in Amaliada.
As well-informed sources explained to protothema.gr, the prosecutor and the investigator handling the case evaluated the findings of the pulmonologist, the neurologist and the two pathologists and, in combination with the testimonies they had in their hands, they decided that an arrest warrant should be issued as the accused is likely to commit other similar acts while she remains free.
Irini Mourtzoukou was arrested at an Athens hotel and, according to information, is accused of the murder of her two children at different times, the murder of another infant and the attempted murder of a friend of hers (she allegedly tried to drown her) with whom she had a close relationship in the past.
The accused spent the night at the GADA, while the warrant will be executed today, Tuesday, at the prosecutor's office for the execution of sentences in Evelpidon, and then Irini Mourtzoukou will go to Patras to apologize to the interrogator.
Her lawyer, Nikos Alexandris, who visited her at the GADA on Monday night, said “I saw her, she is certainly not in a good condition. But she is waiting for this process to be completed, so that she can speak, say what she wants to say and has been saying for so long”. Lawyer Mr. Alexandris described Irini’s arrest as “an expected development. Now if it would happen today, tomorrow or the day after, it was something we were speculating about, but we could not know what the exact day would be. […] We will get the case file and we will be able to respond to each of the charges. She claims that she is innocent and expects this to be shown in the trial”.
