Twitter workers are reportedly leaving the company en masse following Elon Musk's ultimatum requiring survivors of mass layoffs to agree to unconditional, high-intensity, endless hours of employment or else walk away.

Speaking of a 'new' era on Twitter, Musk was quick to inform employees that they should be prepared to work in an extremely demanding environment. The deadline set by Musk's ultimatum for employees to click the "I accept" box expired yesterday afternoon.

While it remains unclear exactly how many have confirmed their resignations, Fortune estimates that between 1.000 and 1.200 employees have quit so far, with Musk asking all those remaining to report to Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco.

Thousands of users of the platform, mainly its former partners, analysts and journalists, already at night have begun to wonder if ... the end of Twitter has come.

Late in the evening, Musk said he was not worried about the resignations, adding: "The best will stay."

"We just broke another all-time usage record," he also wrote. And he accompanied his posts with a pirate flag featuring the skull and a meme depicting a bird-headed figure, Twitter's trademark, in front of a grave with the platform's logo.

Yesterday afternoon, Twitter Inc warned employees that the company's offices will be temporarily closed and all access will be denied.

At the beginning of the month, there were more than 7.000 employees at the company. Now, the 2.500 said to remain have been barred from their offices until Monday with no official reason given for the decision, according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, social media users blasted Musk on Twitter with #RIPTwitter and jokingly compared the mass exodus from the company to the sinking Titanic and a house on fire.
