The next step in his political career was announced by the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, who announced in a post on social media that he wants to be a candidate for president of Turkey in the next elections.
"I am starting this journey with the ambition to be a candidate first and then president. With common sense and consensus, Turkey will become great again and regain its unity as a nation," Imamoglu wrote in his post.
Addressing the voters of the Republican People's Party and the citizens, Ekrem Imamoglu stated that "I am not running for an office but for a tough fight. My only concern, my only dream is to rebuild the state, the economy, democracy, the rule of law, education and public health that this government destroyed."
Giving the stamp of his political positions, the mayor of Istanbul said that he wants the state to become a protector of citizens' rights and security instead of serving a small elite. And we can only achieve this together."
Imamoglu's first rallies will take place tomorrow, Saturday, in Izmir and Kayseri, and the day after tomorrow, Sunday, in Adana and Antalya.
The final decision on the Republican People's Party's candidate in Turkey's next presidential election will be made at a congress on March 23.
