An alarm was sounded at a tube station in north-east London on Tuesday morning after reports that several people had been attacked.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in London after he was seen roaming the streets of Hainault with a sword.

Residents said they were woken by "many voices", "shrill screams" and a man "covered in blood" outside their homes.

In a statement, the police specify that they were called "shortly before 07:00" in the Hainault district.

"A man with a sword was arrested," it added in its statement, clarifying that based on the testimonies gathered from the scene of the attack, the suspect attacked passers-by "and two police officers."

"We are awaiting information on the condition of the people who were injured," the police continued in their statement.

"We do not believe there is still a threat" in the neighborhood and "we are not looking for other suspects," police official Aid Eidelekan said in a statement.

"This incident does not appear to be linked to terrorism," he adds.
