Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the post-Assad era in Syria as a golden opportunity, saying that Turkey's efforts to ensure the safe and voluntary return of Syrians and the reconstruction of the country will continue.
Speaking at the Ambassadors' Conference in Ankara, he said that "the developments yesterday in Syria gave us a ray of hope. We expect international actors, especially the United Nations, to reach out to the Syrian people and support the creation of an inclusive government. As you know, we have been saying from the beginning that a lasting solution, peace and stability in Syria can only be achieved through national reconciliation."
The Turkish Minister said that “a new era has begun in Syria. It is now necessary to focus on the future. In the future, we wish for a Syria where different ethnic and religious groups live in peace and understanding of inclusive governance."
He went on to say that they want to see a new Syria that will have good relations with its neighbors and bring peace and stability to its region. "We are ready to provide the necessary support for this. To this end, we continue the necessary dialogue and coordination with all parties, especially the regional actors," Hakan Fidan said.
He also stated that "Turkey will continue to assume all its responsibilities to ensure the territorial integrity, political unity, prosperity, security and stability of Syria."
Continuing, he said that "we will continue our work to ensure the safe and voluntary return of Syrians and the reconstruction of the country", Turkey, he added, "which reached out to its Syrian brothers in difficult times, will also be with them in the new page opened in Damascus'.
Finally, he said that "we believe that the Syrian people will make good use of this golden opportunity."
