France: The government will present a timetable for easing restrictions

France will present a timetable for easing its restrictions COVID-19 later today, government spokesman Gabriel Atal said, although he warned that the wave of Omicron infections sweeping the country had not reached its peak.

Atal said France's new vaccination certificate rules would allow the rules to be relaxed even though the incidence rate continues to rise.

France announced almost half a million cases of coronavirus yesterday, with a seven-day average of 320.000 cases. However, the number of COVID patients admitted to intensive care units is stabilizing, giving the government some room for maneuver.

Atal declined to comment on plans to phase out restrictions, which include closing clubs, limits on the number of people allowed in sports and leisure facilities, and teleworking.

On Sunday, the government gave final approval to President Emanuel Macron's vaccination pass plans, which require those entering public places such as restaurants, cafes, cinemas and long-distance trains to have a vaccination certificate.

The pass is expected to enter into force shortly after the decision of the Constitutional Court on this issue tomorrow. The vaccination certificate has provoked protests against the vaccination again.

Prime Minister Jean Castex and Health Minister Olivier Veran will present a timetable for easing restrictions at 7 p.m. (20.00 Cyprus time).
