A 15-year-old Syrian man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 12-year-old girl in a public swimming pool.
The 15-year-old was arrested in the city of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony.
What happened in the pool?
The young man allegedly first molested the girl while she was in the water and then followed her to the locker room.
According to prosecutor Hans-Christian Wolters, the incident happened on August 10 at the "Wasserwelt" swimming pool in the northern suburbs of Braunschweig and "although the crime took place three weeks ago, the investigation is still at an early stage."
As the local "Braunschweiger Zeitung" points out, the local police did not make the case public earlier, due to the age of those involved.
