Germany: 17-year-old Iraqi man arrested for plotting attacks

Germany's Supreme Court has issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old Iraqi man suspected of plotting an attack in either Germany or the United Kingdom, the federal prosecutor's office has said.

The minor, who was apprehended by police in Frankfurt on 13 February, had amassed a large quantity of powerful fireworks in the apartment where he lived, in the state of Hesse. He intended to extract and use the explosives they contained.

Prosecutors say 17-year-old Dentai A. (whose last name is not made public under German law because he is a minor) is believed to be a member of the Islamic State. The federal arrest warrant paves the way for him to be formally prosecuted by the authorities and for the investigation into the case to continue.
