Giotis Katsambas: The Cypriot who won the Oscars this year!

This year's list of Oscar winners also includes a Cypriot. Renowned animator Giotis Katsambas, from Nicosia, was actively involved in the production of the film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", which won the Oscar for best animated film.

In particular, Giotis Katsambas was the head of pre-production technology in the film directed by Bob Persiketti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman.

"There is a hero in all of us and we would not have succeeded without you. We thank the Academy for recognizing the wonderful team behind 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' ", according to the film's Twitter account.

The film also won Bafta, the Golden Globe and many more awards.

Giotis Katsambas:

Giotis Katsambas has been living in the USA for the last 20 years. He studied Computer Animation at the Ringling College of Art & Design in Florida.

During his rich career in animated film production, he offered his technical skills to many films and became acclaimed for his contribution to the production of the groundbreaking animated film "Beowulf", with the digital editing of the performance of real actors. He also starred in films such as Hotel Transylvania, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, Arthur Christmas, Smurfs, Spirit and The Road to El Dorado.

Giotis also oversaw computer graphics work on multiple projects at NewKat Studios, which he co-founded in 2001, including "Minority Report", "Mickey's Clubhouse", "Winnie the Pooh" and "Phineas and Ferb".

He currently lives in Los Angeles.
