China is responding to Trump's announcements yesterday with additional tariffs of 84% on imported American products, as announced today by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, Beijing had used strong language against the actions of United States President Donald Trump regarding the bilateral trade relationship, calling his moves "threatening and coercive" and "mistake upon mistake."
In fact, in a White Paper published on Wednesday, the Chinese government reiterated its intention to respond with countermeasures, stating that Washington would face its own consequences.
The white paper made it clear that Beijing does not intend to back down in the trade war and recalled the last communication between Trump and Xi Jinping. "Trade wars have no winners and protectionism leads to a dead end," it said. It stressed that China and the US economic progress is a shared opportunity, not a mutual threat.
