Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morguluff today called for direct talks between the United States and Russia on North Korea, in an interview with TASS today.
His comments came after the United States decided to impose the largest package of sanctions ever imposed on North Korea, with the aim of putting pressure on it to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.
"I am convinced that the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which is changing dramatically, requires active Russian-American dialogue," Morgullov told TASS. He reiterated that Moscow had sent an invitation to talks with Joseph Youn, the US special envoy for North Korea's policy.
Morguelov added that the date for the talks was still being discussed. The Russian diplomat also reiterated calls for talks between Washington and Pyongyang.
