Nike has decided to shut down all retailers in the US and Western Europe in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
According to Bloomberg, in addition to the US and Western European countries, stores are also expected to close in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This measure will enter into force from Monday (16/3) until March 27.
However, as the company emphasizes, it will continue to pay the salaries of its employees normally without any exceptions. "We decided to take various safety measures that concern all our facilities, such as the possibility for employees to work from home, to facilitate the rotation of working hours between employees, as well as to take strict hygiene measures such as the mandatory use of antiseptics in all the facilities ", said in a statement a representative of the company.
Nike was one of the largest sportswear companies that took drastic measures to deal with the pandemic from the beginning, announcing on February 5 that it would close half of its stores in China and reduce the working hours of its employees to the rest.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that its stores in South Korea, Japan, as well as most of its stores in China operate normally without any restrictions.
