The strikes came a day after the deadliest single attack this year, when Russia fired two ballistic missiles at a military institute in the central Ukrainian city of Poltava, killing 50 people and injuring hundreds.

Andriy Sandovy, the mayor of Lviv, which is the administrative center of the greater Lviv region, said a midwife and a man were among the dead, while 35 people were receiving medical attention.
In a video posted on Telegram, in which the mayor is pictured among the debris of a destroyed building, he said more than 50 building structures, from schools to residences and clinics, were damaged, most of them in the heart of the city.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also posted on Facebook the devastation caused by the bombings.
