Earlier in the day, two Turkish soldiers were reported killed by Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) rebels in the southeastern province of Hakkari, according to a statement from the Turkish Armed Forces.
Another Turkish soldier was wounded in the attack, which took place during security operations. The PKK has been considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, and has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since the 1980s. Violence in Turkey's Kurdish southeast escalated after a 2015 ceasefire collapsed.
