Israeli surface-to-air missiles fired from the Golan Heights hit targets south of Damascus, killing three people on Friday night. The SANA news agency quoted a military official as saying that the Syrian anti-missile system had been activated, with the result that "most of the Israeli missiles were shot down".
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Syrian non-governmental organization expressing positions of the Syrian opposition, said that the target of the rocket attack were Hezbollah weapons depots on the outskirts of Damascus.
At the same time, the Saudi television network Al-Hadath reported that the missiles hit an anti-missile device of the regular Syrian army. A civilian was reportedly seriously injured by rocket-propelled grenades in a town south of Damascus.
A few hours before last night's rocket attack, a private radio station, expressing the positions of the Assad regime, reported that a fire broke out at the Damascus International Airport, which resulted in the cancellation of two flights.
From the Israeli side, the armed forces did not issue any statement.
