Shortly after announcing the results of the crucial vote on Britain's future, May announced that she would vote against leaving the EU. without an agreement, while noting that he has personally addressed the issue and is aware of the "potential damage" of a Brexit without an agreement. "I am very sorry for the decision," he added.

After the parliament voted against the proposal, two new votes will follow on Wednesday and Thursday, when the parliament will be asked to vote if it supports a Brexit without an agreement and if it prefers a Brexit delay, with the scheduled departure date already set at 29 March. .

"It's time for an election," said Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn, referring to a "huge defeat" for the government. He noted that the agreement must not be accepted by the House of Commons.

It is recalled that the British MPs had rejected on January 15 with an overwhelming majority (432 votes against 202) the agreement that the Prime Minister had concluded with Brussels, as a result of which May proceeded to renegotiate with the Union.

EU: No transitional period without agreement

Earlier, European Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said today that Britain would receive a transitional period in the post-Brexit era only if the House of Commons ratified the Exit Agreement.

"Listening to the debate in the House of Commons: there seems to be a dangerous illusion that the United Kingdom can benefit from a transitional period without the Exit Agreement," Barnier tweeted.

"Let me be clear: the only legal basis for a transfer is the Exit Agreement. "No withdrawal agreement means no transition," he added.
