An entire city of 26.000 people was devastated by the huge fire that is raging in northern California, and while the authorities are uncertain whether there are victims, as they are facing flames 45 meters high.
With strong winds and dry conditions, the fire spread through the city of Paradise, 240 kilometers north of Sacramento, forcing its residents to flee with an urgent and chaotic mass evacuation.
The blaze engulfed homes, hospitals and schools, according to Reuters. "The city has been destroyed, everything has been leveled," said a spokesman for the California Forest Service. "There is almost nothing left standing."
The town of Chico, with a population of 93.000, is likely to be next in line for the blaze, as the flames move west with winds of 56 kilometers per hour.
"We have reports of some casualties, these reports have not yet been confirmed," the local sheriff explained.
