The additional 84% retaliatory tariffs that Beijing had announced it would impose on American imports came into effect today, a new episode in the trade war declared by Washington and fueling increasingly intense concerns about a global economic recession.
The new additional tariffs apply to all US products imported into the Chinese market without exception.
China's imports from the United States were worth $143,5 billion in 2024, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
